        Hello!

When I was little, my Dad inspired me in science. He finds everything interested and would always encourage me to work things out on my own using first principles. It turns out you can still use this principle doing a PhD in chemistry so I’m very grateful to him!

At school – my biology teacher. He used to spend lunchtimes doing off curriculum experiments with us to inspire us. Disecting a whole rat was fascinating (but not for the faint hearted!)

Also reading the book ‘Uncle Tungston’ by Oliver Sacks – he had an amazing childhood inspired by chemistry. The wonder and pure curiosity he describes it with inspired me.

        Thanks
        Jo

There is a fairly famous chemist called Gerhardt Ertl – he has inspired me. He was the first person to win the Nobel prize in chemistry for the type of research that I do. That was therefore very exciting and makes me look up to him.

My lecturers and professors from St. Xavier’s college in India. They were fantastic, especially one professor used to ask why, what & how for almost everything. This is how i started learning asking questions and thats how i ended up being a scientist. All the credit must go to my teachers.

My grandad was a pharmacist, and so first introduced me to the idea of science. I also had a great primary school teacher who introduced me to science experiments, which really started my interest in the subject.
